What is a Bonus Birthday?

A bonus birthday is a milestone that falls between your annual birthdays — the day you turn 10,000 days old, the instant you clock up a billion seconds, the moment you notch up half a million hours of life. They are real, calculated moments in time, and most people never know they are coming. Bonus Birthday exists to find them for you.

Why celebrate an age measured in days?

We measure age in years because it is easy, but years are blunt instruments. A year contains 365 or 366 days, and round numbers of days land on dates that shift with leap years — so your 10,000th day will almost never fall on your annual birthday. That makes day-based milestones genuinely surprising: you will not stumble onto them by accident. They are also deeply personal, because they are counted from the exact day you were born.

Popular Bonus Birthday milestones

The favourites are 5,000 days (about 13 years and 8 months), 10,000 days (about 27 years and 5 months), 20,000 days (about 54 years and 9 months) and 30,000 days (about 82 years). Among the time-based milestones, one billion seconds (about 31 years and 8 months) is the standout — it lands in early adulthood for most people and is a genuinely astonishing number to say out loud. Five hundred thousand hours (about 57 years) and one million minutes (about 2 years) round out the collection.

Days versus years: why the dates differ

If you multiply your age in years by 365, you will get roughly the right number of days — but not exactly. Leap years add an extra day every four years (with a few exceptions), so the true count of calendar days drifts ahead of the simple multiplication. That is why your 10,000th day does not fall on the same calendar date as your 27th birthday, and why the only way to know the precise date is to count the real calendar days from the day you were born. Bonus Birthday does exactly that.

How BonusBirthday calculates your dates

Day and week milestones are calculated by counting real calendar days forward from your date of birth — leap years included, never approximated with 365 or 365.25. Hours, minutes and seconds are calculated as elapsed time from the instant you were born, so they depend on your birth time. If you provide it, we give you the exact instant; if you do not, we assume midnight on your date of birth and clearly label the result as an estimate. Every calculation happens in your browser — your date of birth is never sent to a server or stored in a database. You can read more on our How it works page.
